He Did It!!
The baseball signed by Prince Fielder of the Detroit Tigers for the 2012 Northern Michigan Relief Sale auction just became more valuable. Last night in Kansas City, Fielder joined another elite club when he won the 2012 MLB Home Run Derby.
With the win, Fielder joins Ken Griffey, Jr. as the only two players with multiple Home Run Derby wins. Fielder said “Just to be mentioned with him is real special”. Griffey Jr. won the competition three times. Fielder also won when the 2010 hitting contest was held at the St. Louis Cardinals stadium. Both of Fielders’ wins happened in the state of Missouri, another bit of information to add to your store of MLB baseball trivia.
In addition to putting the most balls, 28, over the outfield walls on Monday night, Fielder had the highest number of balls land in the fountains that grace the outer reaches of the Kansas City Royals home stadium. Fielder hit the four longest homers of the night, with two of the balls traveling about 476 ft. That’s not as far as the 503 ft shot Fielder hit in the 2010 Derby, but are quite long blasts by any measure.
The 2012 Home Run Derby Championship… another reason to look forward to Fielder’s Hall of Fame induction and another reason to add this valuable ball to your collection.
