First Loaf Challenge
Bread is a symbol of life in many cultures around the world. It is a life giving element. Bread figures prominently in stories from the Bible. Jesus is even called bread. In communion His body is represented by the broken bread that reminds us of his brokenness and sacrifice for us. So it is not surprising that bread is traditionally the first item auctioned off to begin each Northern Michigan Relief Sale.
Each year a freshly baked loaf is auctioned off, donated back and auctioned off again multiple times. Another symbolic act of sacrifice and giving. This re-giving of bread usually adds up to about $1,500. This year the bread will not be baked. The auction will not begin. A virus will keep that from happening .
We are raising a challenge to that circumstance. Can we still raise that $1,500 in honor of that tradition? Are there enough generous bidders to donate that start off amount, even without bread? You can be a part of the “First Loaf”. You can donate through our website. Designate “First Loaf”, choose your amount of giving, and supply the other needed information. This is a secure way to give through the Pay Pal system. Carl will be updating us as donations come in.
At this time, with many sales and activities being cancelled or diminished, this is a great way to support MCC and the work they do around the globe to help those in need.
Let’s kick off the 2020 Northern Michigan Relief Sale in a new way with the same sense of generosity and joy.
