The Hammer Rings Hope
A copy of the book The Hammer Rings Hope will be auctioned off at the Northern Michigan Relief Sale August 2, 2025. This book was published in 2000 by Herald Press. It tells the story of Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) . The author, Lowell Detweiler, grew up in Fairview, Michigan. He was the executive coordinator of MDS from 1986 to 1998. The book presents photos and stories of MDS commemorating 50 years of helping and bringing hope to those who suffer a natural disaster. This copy is in excellent shape.
MDS is a separate entity from Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) which this sale supports with its proceeds. The two organizations are similar in their desire to help those in need. MDS works within the US and Canada to help out after natural disasters. Floods, wildfires, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, even ice storms. Some MDS workers helped with clean up and repairs here in Fairview this spring after the devastating ice storm. All the work is done by volunteers. Maybe you have even worked on an MDS project yourself.
This is a very interesting and informative book. You may not see another one as nice. Come to the Northern Michigan Relief Sale to bid on it. When you do you help people in need around the world.
