Vintage Calendars and Booklets
Looking at old books and advertisements can be fun. It can also be educational. You can gain an historical perspective on things of today. Most of us don’t have a concrete idea of what life was like 100 years ago. Even 60 or 80 years ago is beyond the experience of many. If you lived through that time frame, you are reminded of things you once knew but have probably forgotten.
You can take a stroll down memory lane with a couple of things that will be on the General Auction. We have two calendars and a card for “Buck Up” for 1944 by Murray D. “Pat” Van Wagoner.
One calendar is local. A complete 1942 calendar is from Houlton’s Standard Service, Mio, Michigan. Some of our senior citizens may remember that gas station and its location. They may even have known the owner. There are cute timely pictures for each month. It is in great but not perfect shape.
Another complete calendar is from Granite State Fire Insurance Company, Portsmouth, N.H. This calendar has a cardboard stand that was never used on the back. It is also unusual because it is for April 1944 through March 1945. Each month has a photograph of something in New Hampshire. I would say this is near perfect condition. What a way to learn about history!
We also have a grouping of 17 vintage booklets on Mennonite topics. Copyrights range from 1920 to 1956. Most are in excellent shape for their age.
Here are some of the titles:
Clinton Frame Sketches by Raymond Mark Yoder
Mennonites and Their Heritage by C. Henry Smith
Worldly Conformity in Dress by John Horsch
Nonresistance in Colonial Pennsylvania by Wilbur J. Bender
Nonresistance and the State by Guy F. Hershberger
Mennonite Sunday School Centennial by Harold S. Bender
Instructions to Beginners in the Christian Life
Ancient and Modern Idolatry by Clayton F. Derstine – this is the 1920 copyright
Come and bid on these pieces of history on August 3, 2024. The Northern Michigan Relief Sale uses the proceeds from all sales to help people around the world.
