School Kits at Kids’ World

Mixed in with all the planning, work, friends, quilts, excitement, etc. at the Relief Sale it is sometimes easy to lose sight of the real reason we do this sale. All of the other things are nice and fun to experience. However, we are here for another reason. There is serious business behind the fun. The whole purpose for the sale is to raise money to help those in need. We are helping people who have very little. Many of them have just gone through a traumatic event of one sort or another. Their hope is quite low. Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) is there to help them pick up the pieces, get on with life and provide hope of a better future.

One way besides purchasing items at the sale that you can help is with providing supplies to make school kits. Kids’ World will again be making school kits on Saturday at the old school building at the fairgrounds. This is one way that the younger generation can experience helping someone their own age. We in America don’t really understand what true need is most of the time. What if you could not go to school because you didn’t have supplies? Schools in many countries around the world expect you to bring everything you need with you. It is not given to you. School kits enable children to attend school. For them it is a great thing to be able to go to school. Children here complain. They don’t realize how good they have it.

If you would like to help, here are the items needed for a kit:

4 spiral notebooks – 70 sheets – 8 1/2 by 10 1/2 inches

8 unsharpened pencils

1 ruler – flat, flexible, ruled in both centimeters and inches, 12 inches long

12 colored pencils- in the package

1 large pencil eraser

11 by16 inch double drawstring bag

These kits have been distributed to countries around the world including the US in the last year. Thanks for helping children in need.
