Blessing Bid to Honor Charlie
As the Northern Michigan Relief Sale grows older, so do the long time volunteers. This year we lost two of our friends and co-workers. Charlie Card was one of them. Many of you may have a recollection of a bearded man on a golf cart navigating the fairgrounds. That was Charlie. He helped for many years with the camping situation, registering campers and collecting fees. He will be missed and you will see new faces in that role this year.
Charlie was a mechanical sort of person, a fixer. In that frame of thought we will offer a blessing bid to train young men to be that fixer also. In Honduras there is a program through MCC for “Retornados”. These are young men who have returned to their homeland from other countries. They usually have few skills, no money, and no job prospects. This forces them and their family to continue to live in poverty. In this program they learn marketable skills in areas such as industrial operations, culinary, refrigeration, electrical, and barbering. This allows them to have a stable income to support themselves and their family. They also receive trauma support and self-sufficiency training. Upon graduation they are given a tool kit to help them get started in their profession.
Blessing bids of $100 will go towards this program to help with the training of young men in Honduras.
Here is one way you can make a difference in a poverty stricken part of the world. You can help someone in the way Charlie would have.
