Blessing Bid in Memory of Ardis
Every year brings changes and sometimes losses. This past fall we lost a longtime Northern Michigan Relief Sale worker. Many of you may remember Ardis Miller. For many years Ardis worked in the office all the while participating in the quilting part of the sale. She gave up the office work for full dedication to the quilting aspect of the sale a few years ago. Ardis was an accomplished quilter. She taught quilting to many local people getting them hooked on the craft. Her skills at machine quilting is greatly missed.
In her honor there will be a special Blessing Bid in 2019. Women’s Empowerment Program (WEP) in South Sudan teaches sewing skills to women in that strife torn country. In a nine month program women learn tailoring and sewing skills, business and financial principles, health/nutrition/hygiene, and non-violent peace building. This enables women to successfully earn money to support their family and be a better care provider for them. The program has been in operation for nine years.
The Blessing Bids available this year will help women to be able to take this training and get a start at their own business.
$125 – Will supply fabric for one student for the class
$250 – Provides a sewing machine for a new graduate of the class. ( This bid will probably be split in half so more donors can contribute to help others.)
This is just one of many programs that MCC has in place around the world to help those in difficult situations be self sufficient and make a positive difference in their community. Consider a Blessing Bid to help these women and remember Ardis for her contributions to The Northen Michigan Relief Sale.
