Who Has Intarsia?
Whoops! Wrong question.
Intarsia is not a disease. Actually it is a beautiful and intricate craft. Intarsia involves taking many different kinds of wood and cutting, shaping, sanding, arranging, gluing, and polishing. The final result is a beautiful finely crafted piece of art. It is like quilting with wood. If you have been to the Northern Michigan Relief Sale in the past you have probably seen some incredible pieces.
This year in 2018, we have at least four pieces of intarsia. They are pictured on the website. Just click on auction. There is an owl and a hummingbird. There are also two abstract Intarsia Wood Crazy Patch Puzzles. Can you imagine fitting together about 60 small pieces of wood? Each piece of wood is left in its natural color. No staining is done. Woods are selected for the color and grain. Everyday woods are used as well as some you probably never heard of. Here are some of the woods used in these creations: cedar ,walnut, poplar, butternut, bird’s eye maple, sycamore, redbay, blue pine, lacewood, spalted maple, spalted birch, yellowheart, basswood, ebony, padauk, bubinga, and bloodwood.
Come see them in August and bid on them. If you win,you can enjoy them in your home.
