Bean Soup Returns
The tradition of Bean Soup at the Northern Michigan Relief Sale is returning in 2024.
The old cooker had broken down beyond repair. It could no longer be used. For the last few years there was discussion and a search for a new bean cooker. None was found. This summer a new cooker was commissioned and built because of someone’s passion for providing Bean Soup.
The question was would it cook the soup. The answer is yes indeed! A test batch of Bean Soup was put in the cooker recently. The original recipe from the Relief Sale was used. Don’t be afraid of some newfangled version Those responsible for making the soup say they learned by doing it ahead of time. Those of us who were tasters appreciated the effort. The reports from one and all were positive.
So…Bean Soup will return to the Relief Sale on Friday night this August 2 at 5 p.m.
If you loved it and missed it, make sure to come and have a bowl along with the also traditional piece of bread. If this is new to you, give it a try. We welcome back a piece of Northern Michigan Relief Sale history.
